Ohio Man Sentenced for Deadly Game of Russian Roulette

Omarion Horne, a 23-year-old from Cincinnati, has been sentenced to between 10 and 14.5 years in prison after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter in connection with the death of his friend, Rachel Counts. The tragic incident occurred on October 7, 2025, when Horne allegedly engaged in a dangerous game of Russian roulette during a card-playing session.

According to court documents, Horne removed all but one bullet from a revolver and proposed playing Russian roulette with Counts. He then pointed the loaded gun at her and pulled the trigger, fatally shooting Counts in the chest. This act led to his arrest shortly after the incident took place on October 10, 2025.

Prosecutors had initially charged Horne with felonious assault and reckless homicide alongside involuntary manslaughter; however, these charges were dropped as part of a plea deal that allowed him to plead guilty to the lesser charge. The decision was made in an effort to secure a conviction without risking a potential acquittal at trial.

Horne’s legal team argued during pretrial hearings that there was insufficient evidence to support claims of intentional criminal conduct and requested a lower bond for their client, citing his severe epilepsy condition that had worsened due to incarceration. Despite these arguments, the judge ultimately upheld the original charges related to involuntary manslaughter.

Following his release from prison, Horne will be required to comply with post-release control measures for up to five years. This period is designed to monitor and manage his behavior upon reintegration into society after serving his sentence.
