Tennessee Firefighter Accused of Attempted Murder After Biting Girlfriend's Cheek During Breakup

A 27-year-old firefighter from Memphis, Tennessee, has been arrested and charged with attempted first-degree murder after allegedly attacking his girlfriend in a violent incident that occurred during their breakup. Khy'ric Mason is also facing charges of kidnapping, theft of property, and domestic assault causing bodily harm.

According to police reports, the attack took place on Monday afternoon around 3:20 p.m., when Mason was with his 25-year-old girlfriend at a residence in northeast Memphis. The couple and her nine-year-old son were inside her Hyundai Elantra parked in front of the house. When the victim's phone rang, Mason became upset after she refused to disclose who was calling.

Mason instructed the child to leave the car and go inside the house before locking the vehicle doors. He then began strangling his girlfriend by placing both hands around her neck and twisting it forcefully. The attack escalated when he attempted to pull her into the back seat while still choking her, causing her to kick the steering wheel horn in an effort to alert others for help.

During this violent struggle, Mason allegedly bit a hole out of his girlfriend's left cheek as she continued to fight back by biting his finger. Despite her efforts, it was only when the victim’s son managed to open the passenger door that he could intervene and assist his mother in escaping from the vehicle.

Mason's family members who were nearby intervened to stop the attack once they witnessed what was happening. After separating Mason from the victim, he reportedly drove off in her car without permission. The Memphis Police Department responded shortly after receiving a call about the incident and found the victim with visible injuries including abrasions on her chest and neck, as well as a severe bite wound on her left cheek.

The victim identified Khy'ric Mason as her attacker, leading to his arrest and booking into the Shelby County Detention Center on $100,000 bond. Local news outlets reported that Mason is employed by the Memphis Fire Department. The alleged attack occurred after the woman had decided to end their relationship.
