Woman Who Killed Two Spouses Pleads Guilty to Second-Degree Murder

A 54-year-old woman who previously served time for killing her husband in 2000 has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the fatal stabbing of her wife last year. Yolanda Olejniczak Marodi, who was released from prison in November 2013 after serving a decade for the earlier crime, admitted to fatally stabbing Rebecca Marodi on February 17, 2025.

The incident occurred shortly before Rebecca Marodi decided to leave their two-year marriage. Home surveillance footage captured Olejniczak Marodi chasing her wife around the house with blood visible on Rebecca's body. She repeatedly told Rebecca, "You should have thought of that before," according to an arrest warrant obtained by The Coast News Group.

After the stabbing, Olejniczak Marodi left their home and fled across the border into Mexico approximately 75 minutes later. Surveillance footage showed her packing items into her car and driving away. Rebecca was found dead inside the house from multiple stab wounds when her mother arrived at the scene.

Olejniczak Marodi sent a text message to someone the following day, confessing to the killing: "Becky came home and told me she was leaving me. She met someone else. All the messages were lies. We had a big fight, and I hurt her... I’m sorry." This confession led to her arrest on March 22, 2025, in Mexicali, Mexico.

On August 4, Olejniczak Marodi entered a guilty plea for second-degree murder, admitting she used a knife during the attack. The charge was reduced from first-degree murder as part of a plea deal, which Deputy District Attorney Jared Coleman said considered the victim's family's desire for closure among other factors.

Rebecca Marodi had been a firefighter since 1992 and was promoted to captain in 2022. Her career earned her respect within the firefighting community, known for her unwavering dedication and bravery. She also cared for her elderly mother, showcasing her commitment to family and community service.

The tragic death of Rebecca Marodi has highlighted issues surrounding spousal abuse and the challenges faced by individuals in abusive relationships. The case underscores the need for better support systems and resources for victims seeking to leave dangerous situations safely.
