Man Arrested for Stalking Woman Who Fought Off His Attempt to Enter Her Home
A 26-year-old man has been arrested and charged with stalking after he followed a woman home from a bar in Bellevue, Pennsylvania, and attempted to force his way into her residence. According to the Bellevue Borough Police Department, Anthony Bartos was booked into Allegheny County Jail on Monday following his arrest.
The incident occurred around midnight when Jerah Jorinscay was walking back to her home after leaving a nearby bar. As she approached her front door and began unlocking it, she noticed a shadow moving behind her. Upon turning around, she saw Bartos standing near the screen door of her porch, wearing gloves and a baseball cap.
Jorinscay confronted Bartos upon realizing he had been following her home. She can be heard in Ring camera footage yelling at him to identify himself. "Who the fâ are you?!" she shouted as she tried to scare him off. The suspect laughed and walked away, telling Jorinscay to calm down.
The victim immediately called for help from someone nearby and then contacted the police. Officers arrived shortly after 12:40 a.m., responding to reports of an attempted entry into her home by an unknown male who had been following her from a local bar. After reviewing surveillance footage, investigators identified Bartos as their suspect.
Jorinscay was shown a photo lineup where she positively identified Bartos as the man who had stalked and harassed her. Police confirmed that Bartos has prior charges for similar behavior in nearby McCandless, Pennsylvania, including prowling and harassment. He also faces additional gun and assault charges.
The Bellevue Borough Police Department charged Bartos with stalking, possessing an instrument of crime, loitering and prowling at night, disorderly conduct, and harassment. His bail was denied, and he is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on August 27th.
Jorinscay expressed relief that the suspect has been apprehended, stating that she hopes Bartos will face justice for his actions. She emphasized her hope that sharing her story would prevent similar incidents from happening to others in the future. "He doesn't see the sky no more," she said, adding that seeing him run away was a liberating experience.
This case highlights the ongoing issue of harassment and stalking, especially targeting women who are walking home late at night or early morning hours after visiting establishments like bars. It underscores the importance of community support and rapid police response in ensuring public safety and holding perpetrators accountable for their actions.
