Iowa Man Faces Attempted Murder Charge After Stabbing Mother Over Speaker Use
A 21-year-old Iowa man is charged with attempted murder and going armed with intent after allegedly stabbing his mother in the neck. Nathan Norrell reportedly ambushed his mother in their bathroom following her refusal to let him use her speaker. The incident occurred after his mother denied his request for the speaker, prompting him to hide behind a bathroom door and attack her when she re-entered.
The mother sustained a significant neck wound and defensive injuries on her hands. She informed police that the assault was deliberate and that she feared for her life, believing her son intended to kill her. Norrell, who was reportedly intoxicated and under the influence of "medication," fled the scene via Uber to his grandfather's residence, where he later surrendered to authorities. He claims no recollection of the attack due to his impaired state.
Authorities are holding Norrell on a $750,000 bond. This incident is not the first concerning behavior reported by the mother, who previously found her son passed out with a kitchen knife two weeks prior to the stabbing. The West Des Moines Police Department is continuing its investigation into the violent domestic dispute.
