Trump's Army Secretary Resigns Over Disputes With Defense Chief Hegseth

Trump’s Secretary of the Army, Dan Driscoll, has stepped down from his position following months of friction with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. According to sources familiar with the matter, Driscoll’s departure was prompted by Hegseth's dismissal of several high-ranking generals who were instrumental in advancing Driscoll’s reform agenda.

Driscoll, a former Army Ranger and Yale Law School graduate, had been appointed as the Army’s top civilian leader in 2024. His tenure saw significant efforts to modernize the U.S. military through initiatives like the Army Transformation Initiative, which aimed at integrating artificial intelligence into decision-making processes and enhancing drone formations.

The core of Driscoll's agenda was inspired by Ukraine's rapid technological advancements during its conflict with Russia. He emphasized the urgency of adopting new technologies to avoid casualties in future conflicts. Sen. Jack Reed, a Democrat from Rhode Island and a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, expressed concern over Driscoll’s departure. "I am alarmed that Secretary Driscoll’s leadership stands in stark contrast to Secretary Hegseth's disastrous tenure," he stated.
