Teen Faces DUI Charge After Fatal ATV Crash Claims Best Friend's Life in Kentucky
A 16-year-old girl in Kentucky faces a driving under the influence charge following an ATV accident that resulted in the death of her best friend, 16-year-old Emilynn Clark. The incident occurred around 9 p.m. on February 28 on Oakwood Avenue in Vicco, an unincorporated community southeast of Lexington. Authorities from the Perry County Sheriff's Department report that the ATV veered off the road and went over an embankment, also severely injuring one of two other passengers.
Sheriff Joe Engle confirms that alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash. The community, especially Perry County Central High School, mourns the loss of Emilynn Clark, who was remembered for her infectious smile and involvement in sports like volleyball and basketball. A GoFundMe campaign has been established to cover funeral expenses and create a memorial in her honor.
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities testing a blood sample from the scene and reviewing surveillance footage from local businesses to determine who purchased the alcohol. Two search warrants have been executed, including one for the cell phone of Noah Back, identified as the ATV owner, in connection with a separate investigation. Additional charges, potentially including vehicular homicide or manslaughter, may be pursued as prosecutors review the facts.
