Pastor Breaks Down as Detective Describes Wife's Murder Scene

Caleb Flynn, a 40-year-old pastor who previously appeared on "American Idol," was visibly distraught in court Monday during the second day of his murder trial. The emotional breakdown occurred when Detective David Hammond from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation testified about the scene at the Flynns' home where Ashley Flynn, Caleb's wife and a 37-year-old mother, was found shot to death on February 16.

Hammond detailed how Ashley Flynn was discovered lying still in her bed after being executed with two shots to the back of her head. The detective noted that the amount of blood and brain matter made it difficult to determine exactly how many times she had been hit but confirmed the presence of two fired 9 mm cartridge casings on the bedroom floor.

During his testimony, Hammond described Ashley as "lying still" in a sleeping position when she was shot, which deeply affected Caleb Flynn. The pastor began weeping uncontrollably as graphic photos were shown to the court, depicting the crime scene and the condition of his wife's body.

Prosecutors have alleged that Caleb Flynn had been exchanging over 100,000 text messages with a reported mistress before Ashley’s murder. They presented evidence suggesting that Caleb sent a message to this woman on February 15 saying, "I choose you. I’m free. Actions will come tomorrow," referring to the day of his wife's death.

The prosecution further emphasized during opening statements that Ashley Flynn was "executed" and shot while asleep in bed. This revelation added another layer of emotional weight to Hammond’s testimony, causing Caleb Flynn to break down again when he heard how police determined that she had been harmed while lying still.

Caleb Flynn is facing charges including aggravated murder, murder, felonious assault, tampering with evidence, and intimidation of a witness, attorney, or victim in a criminal case. Despite the mounting evidence against him, he has maintained his innocence throughout the proceedings, pleading not guilty to all charges.
