Illinois Man Accused of Killing Partner and Child in Horrific Domestic Violence Incident

In a shocking incident that has sent shockwaves through the community, 24-year-old Jeremiah Duncan is accused of fatally shooting his partner, Heaven J. Wood, and leaving their two-year-old son, KJ Duncan-Wood, to die inside a burning vehicle before fleeing on foot. The tragic event unfolded early Friday morning in Peoria County, Illinois.

According to local authorities, deputies were dispatched to the scene around 6:09 a.m. after receiving reports of a vehicle fire at Yorkshire Avenue. Upon arrival, first responders found a car engulfed in flames and traced it back to a nearby home on Yorkshire where Wood was later discovered with a gunshot wound. Emergency medical services transported her to OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

Inside the residence, two other children were found unharmed by emergency personnel. The preliminary investigation suggests that the vehicle had been driven from the area of the shooting before crashing into another location. After extinguishing the flames, responders discovered KJ’s lifeless body inside the car. An autopsy conducted by the Peoria County Coroner's Office confirmed that KJ suffered severe smoke inhalation and likely died moments after the fire was ignited.

The sheriff's office identified Duncan as a suspect shortly after the incident and launched an extensive search for him. He was eventually located at approximately 12:05 p.m. near Molleck Drive and Oak Crest Drive, where he was taken into custody by law enforcement. Sheriff Chris Watkins confirmed that Duncan was armed with a knife when apprehended and is also KJ's father.

Duncan sustained serious burns during the fire but is currently receiving medical treatment at an undisclosed facility while in police custody. He has been charged with one count of first-degree murder for Wood’s death, though charges have yet to be filed concerning KJ.
