Father Sentenced to Decades Behind Bars After Killing Ex-Girlfriend and Mother of Four

Trenton Ivy, 33, has been sentenced to serve a total of 42 years in prison for the murder of Marquisha Williams, his ex-girlfriend and mother of their four children. The tragic incident occurred on December 20, 2023, when Williams was reported missing after being last seen with Ivy.

According to court documents, investigators found evidence linking Ivy to Williams' disappearance upon arresting him in Racine, Wisconsin, two days later. Inside the victim's car, police discovered biological material and personal items belonging to Williams, leading them to question Ivy about her whereabouts. In his confession to authorities, Ivy admitted that he had killed Williams during a physical altercation in St. Louis before disposing of her body in an Illinois nature preserve.

Williams' remains were identified on December 28, 2023, when they were found in Litchfield, Illinois. The cause of death was determined to be strangulation. During the sentencing hearing held on October 5, 2026, Ivy pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, tampering with a motor vehicle, and tampering with physical evidence as part of an agreement with prosecutors.

The emotional courtroom proceedings were marked by poignant moments when Williams' mother addressed the court, expressing her profound sorrow at losing her daughter. She conveyed her regret that she could not have protected Marquisha from harm. Perhaps most strikingly, Ivy's four children, who had been present in the courtroom throughout the hearing, directly confronted their father with a simple yet devastating question: "Why did you do this?"

Judge Stanley James Wallach imposed consecutive sentences totaling 42 years for Ivy’s crimes. Prosecutor Melissa Price Smith emphasized during her statement that no amount of incarceration could adequately compensate for the loss Williams' family and children would endure. She noted, “We know this dear family and those four children will live with this loss every single day.”

The case highlights the devastating impact of domestic violence and the long-lasting trauma inflicted on surviving relatives, particularly young children who must grapple with the sudden absence of a parent they once relied upon for care and support. As Ivy begins his lengthy prison term, questions remain about how to better prevent such tragedies in future cases involving intimate partner violence.

The sentencing underscores the legal system's effort to address violent crimes that result in significant familial harm while also acknowledging the profound emotional toll on victims' loved ones.
