Son Charged with First-Degree Murder After Allegedly Beating 92-Year-Old Father to Death
A man has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of his 92-year-old father. The incident occurred on October 12 when Baton Rouge Police Department responded to a welfare check for Larry Salisbury, who was found deceased at his residence.
Upon arrival, officers discovered that Larry Salisbury had died from blunt force trauma. His son, Bruce Salisbury, has been identified as the suspect in this case. According to WAFB reports, there were two previous calls made to the home on October 11 due to an argument between Larry and Bruce over car keys.
Court records show that Larry Salisbury had filed a protective order against his son, which was set to expire only in July 2027. This protective order came after an earlier incident where Bruce Salisbury was charged with felony domestic abuse battery against his father on July 24. As a result of this charge, Bruce pleaded guilty and received a sentence of six months in prison, with credit for time served, followed by one year of unsupervised probation.
The day following Larry Salisbury’s death, police apprehended Bruce during a traffic stop that involved a high-speed chase. During the pursuit, Bruce reportedly flipped his vehicle before being taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder.
Bruce Salisbury's criminal history includes multiple arrests for offenses such as operating a vehicle while intoxicated, resisting an officer, simple burglary, and violation of protection orders.
The tragic case highlights the complexities involved in protecting vulnerable elderly individuals from abuse by family members, especially when legal measures like protective orders are in place but may not always prevent violent outcomes. The ongoing investigation into this incident underscores the need for more effective support systems to safeguard seniors at risk within their homes.
This case also raises broader questions about the adequacy of current legal protections and enforcement mechanisms designed to shield elderly victims from domestic violence perpetrated by family members, particularly when those measures do not fully deter such violent acts.
