Florida Man Charged With Attempted Murder After Shooting Girlfriend and Running Her Over

A 40-year-old man has been arrested and charged with attempted first-degree murder and child abuse following a violent incident in Safety Harbor, Florida. According to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, Christopher “Dodge” Smith allegedly shot his girlfriend, Jessica Antolini, outside a local bar on October 13 at around 9 p.m.

Deputies were initially dispatched to the scene after receiving reports of a shooting. Upon investigation, it was revealed that earlier in the evening, around 8:45 p.m., Smith had left his dog and his five-year-old daughter inside his vehicle while he entered the bar. When he exited the establishment with Antolini, an argument ensued. Smith then allegedly shot Antolini before fleeing the scene in his car.

Witnesses provided a detailed description of Smith’s vehicle to law enforcement, leading to his swift apprehension shortly after the incident. Body-worn camera footage released by the sheriff’s department shows Smith pleading with deputies that his daughter was inside the car during his escape.

The child and the dog were found unharmed in the vehicle and later handed over to family members for care. Antolini was rushed to a local hospital where she remains in critical condition, according to medical reports.

Smith has been booked into jail on charges of attempted first-degree murder and child abuse. A judge denied him bond on the attempted murder charge and ordered that he not have any contact with his daughter moving forward. The ongoing investigation aims to uncover more details about the incident and ensure all legal proceedings are thorough and just.

This case highlights the severe consequences of domestic violence, which can escalate into life-threatening situations involving innocent bystanders and children caught in the crossfire. Community advocates emphasize the importance of recognizing warning signs and seeking help through local resources designed to address such issues before they reach a critical point.

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office continues its investigation into this tragic event, working closely with legal authorities to ensure justice for Antolini and her family. Law enforcement agencies nationwide are using incidents like these as reminders about the importance of early intervention and support systems for those at risk of domestic violence.
