On September 14, just days before her death, Pierce was taken by her boyfriend to a hospital due to an injury sustained when she cut her hand on scrap metal. Family members reported that they lost contact with Pierce on September 7, raising immediate concerns about her well-being.

Pierce's family became increasingly suspicious after receiving conflicting information from her boyfriend regarding her whereabouts.
