Florida Mother Held in Custody After Allegedly Threatening Daughter with Butter Knife

A 48-year-old mother from Homestead, Florida, Estela Torres-Henriquez, is facing charges of aggravated battery after allegedly threatening her daughter with a butter knife. The incident occurred at around 7:30 AM on the morning of October 12th in the 500 block of SW 3rd Street in Homestead.

According to police reports, Torres-Henriquez's daughter was getting ready for school when she locked herself inside her bedroom. Concerned that her child would be late for class, Torres-Henriquez reportedly used a butter knife to unlock the door and entered the room. Inside, she allegedly began yelling at her daughter about being tardy.

The affidavit filed by law enforcement indicates that Torres-Henriquez waved the butter knife near her daughter's face before placing it against her neck, causing fear for the girl’s safety. The victim reported the incident to school authorities upon arriving at South Dade Senior High School later that morning.

Torres-Henriquez was taken into custody following an interview with the Department of Children and Families at the Homestead Police Department. During questioning, she maintained that her intent in using the butter knife was solely to unlock the bedroom door due to time constraints related to school attendance. She denied threatening or harming her daughter with the weapon.

The defendant was booked into Miami-Dade Jail on a $5,000 bond and is scheduled for an initial court appearance at a later date. This case highlights the severe consequences that can arise from parental frustration and the importance of maintaining safe environments within homes, especially around children.

This incident has drawn significant attention due to its unusual nature and the potential danger involved in using kitchen utensils as weapons. Law enforcement officials are emphasizing the need for parents to manage their emotions and ensure the well-being of their children through non-violent means.
