Florida Man Arrested for Killing Two Roommates Over Ice Cream Dispute

A 69-year-old man has been arrested in Ocala, Florida, accused of fatally shooting his two elderly male roommates during an argument over ice cream. Mark Robinson was taken into custody on a charge of second-degree murder following the incident that occurred on October 28.

According to Chief Mike Balken of the Ocala Police Department, police initially responded to a report of a verbal altercation at the residence involving "someone eating someone's ice cream." After interviewing all three men present, officers left the scene. However, about an hour later, multiple 911 calls were received from the same address reporting gunfire.

Upon their return, Robinson admitted to shooting both roommates. One victim died immediately while the other succumbed to his injuries shortly after being transported to a local hospital. The victims were aged 78 and 69 at the time of their deaths.

Robinson claimed he acted in self-defense during an alleged second confrontation that took place when his roommates returned from a walk. He stated one roommate was armed with a knife, prompting him to retrieve a shotgun for protection. He reportedly shot the armed roommate out of fear and then fired at the other as he attempted to flee.

Police have been called to the residence multiple times this year due to disturbances between Robinson and his roommates and neighbors. Reports suggest that Robinson has alcohol issues and was described by officers as an "angry old man" living in a "dysfunctional arrangement" with his roommates.

The Ocala Police Department is currently investigating the case, which could lead to additional charges against Robinson. Detectives have established probable cause for the murder charge but continue to review evidence that may influence further legal action.
