Investigative Journalist Matthew Cole Alleges Secret Middle East Deal Involving Jared Kushner
In a recent excerpt from his new book "Princes and Thieves," investigative journalist Matthew Cole has made explosive allegations against former President Donald Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner. The book claims that during Trump's first term in office, Saudi Arabian and Emirati leaders secretly funneled at least $2 billion into bank accounts accessible to Kushner while he served as a senior adviser to the president.
Cole's reporting is based on over 50 sources and extensive fact-checking, presenting what he describes as an "unholy alliance" between Kushner, Mohamed bin Zayed of the UAE, Saudi Arabia’s leaders, and then-Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The journalist asserts that these figures collaborated to reshape the political landscape in the Middle East during a period marked by significant geopolitical shifts.
Kushner's legal team has vehemently rejected Cole's claims, demanding a retraction from Vanity Fair and threatening legal action against Simon & Schuster, the book’s publisher. They argue that no such bank accounts ever existed and that Cole lacks credible evidence to support his allegations. Kushner himself stated in a public denial: “The allegations made by this author are completely insane, categorically false, and never happened.”
Despite these denials, Matthew Cole remains steadfast in defending his work. In an interview with Democracy Now!, he emphasized the thoroughness of his research process, noting that there is substantial evidence within the book to support its claims about the alleged secret negotiations and financial arrangements.
The controversy has drawn attention from lawmakers as well. Congressman Jamie Raskin, the ranking Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, has called for Kushner to recuse himself from any ongoing Middle East and Ukraine-related negotiations. Additionally, Raskin urged Kushner to produce a detailed list of all bank accounts or other financial instruments he had access to during his tenure in government.
The timing of these allegations is particularly sensitive given recent developments in the region, including the normalization agreements between Israel and several Arab nations brokered under Trump's administration. Critics argue that Cole’s revelations could cast doubt on the legitimacy and transparency of those diplomatic efforts.
As the debate over Kushner’s role and potential conflicts of interest continues to unfold, questions remain about the extent of foreign influence within U.S. government circles during critical periods of international diplomacy. The allegations raise broader concerns about accountability and ethical standards in high-level political dealings involving substantial financial interests.
The controversy surrounding Cole's book highlights the ongoing scrutiny faced by former Trump administration officials regarding their conduct and potential conflicts of interest, especially as they continue to hold influential positions under the current administration.
