Alabama Mother Charged with Capital Murder in Toddler's Christmas Day Death
An Alabama mother faces capital murder charges following the Christmas Day death of her two-year-old daughter, Genesis Reid. Adrienne Reid, 33, was arrested after investigators concluded she murdered her child and disposed of the body in a dumpster at her Enterprise apartment complex. Police Chief Michael Moore confirmed the charges, which also include providing false information to law enforcement and corpse abuse.
Authorities believe Genesis was placed in a duffel bag and discarded on December 25, with security footage reportedly showing Reid placing a rolling duffel bag in the dumpster around 11:30 p.m. that night. Two days later, Reid allegedly returned to the dumpster to dispose of Genesis's toys. Despite the child's remains not yet being recovered, extensive searches are planned for the Coffee County Landfill, a process expected to be lengthy and challenging due to compaction at multiple stages.
Reid initially reported Genesis missing on February 16, claiming she found a door open and her daughter gone. However, neighbors reported not seeing Genesis for weeks prior to January. Coffee County District Attorney James Tarbox has stated he will seek the death penalty, emphasizing Reid's alleged "campaign of deceit, lies and manipulation." Reid remains incarcerated without bond as the investigation continues.
