The International Energy Agency (IEA) is holding an extraordinary meeting of its member governments today to address escalating instability in global oil and gas markets. This urgent gathering follows a G7 Energy Ministers Meeting, chaired by France's Minister Roland Lescure, where discussions centered on the current supply situation and potential responses. The IEA's executive director, Fatih Birol, announced the emergency session, highlighting a significant deterioration in market conditions and substantial curtailment of oil production, which is creating considerable risks.

The prospect of coordinated action, including the potential release of emergency oil stocks, has already impacted financial markets. Following the IEA's announcement, oil futures experienced a notable decline, erasing earlier gains and dropping to overnight lows.
