Army Opens Perpetual Drone Marketplace to Accelerate Military UAS Acquisition

The U.S. Army has launched an open solicitation for its Uncrewed Aircraft System (UAS) Marketplace, seeking innovative drone technologies from commercial industry. This initiative, pursued through a commercial solutions opening (CSO) contracting mechanism, aims to rapidly expand the military's drone capabilities. The solicitation highlights over a dozen areas of interest, including air vehicles, payloads, electronic warfare, tactical communications, and autonomous software, with the goal of scaling the industrial base and accelerating production deliveries. This marketplace will remain open indefinitely, allowing for continuous submissions and updates to keep pace with evolving threats and innovations.

This strategic move aligns with a broader Pentagon effort, championed by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Army Secretary Dan Driscoll, to significantly bolster the military's drone arsenal. The Army intends for this marketplace to incentivize industry innovation and empower soldiers with a wider choice of mission-specific solutions. Industry partners are invited to submit solution briefs, which could lead to demonstrations, pitches, and commercial solution proposals, ultimately enabling the rapid acquisition and deployment of cutting-edge commercial drone technology to warfighters.

Concurrently, the Pentagon also established a separate Counter-UAS Marketplace, an online platform for personnel to procure anti-drone technology, aiming to streamline the often-lengthy defense procurement process. This counter-drone effort, led by the Army's Joint Interagency Task Force 401, seeks to integrate sensors, effectors, and mission command systems into a responsive network to protect service members and citizens from drone threats. Both marketplaces represent a significant shift towards leveraging commercial innovation and accelerating the deployment of critical drone and counter-drone capabilities.
