Mother Arrested, Accused of Neglecting Son's Post-Brain Surgery Care Due to Lack of Time

A Shreveport mother faces multiple charges, including obstruction of court orders and drug offenses, after allegedly failing to take her 6-year-old son to crucial follow-up medical appointments following brain surgery. The child had undergone surgery in October 2025 for a brain mass and was experiencing complications such as hypopituitarism, post-op diabetes insipidus, and secondary adrenal insufficiency. Medical facilities reported that seven appointments were missed and six were canceled, with repeated attempts to contact the mother, LaShonda Zenon, proving unsuccessful.

Authorities were alerted by a Department of Children and Family Services caseworker who received information from medical facilities regarding potential neglect. After an investigation and a custody order was granted, police were eventually able to locate Zenon and her three children. Zenon reportedly claimed she did not have time to take her son to the necessary appointments, a statement authorities deemed unacceptable given the severity of the child's condition. The child and his siblings have been placed in DCFS custody, and Zenon is currently being held on bond.
