Florida Woman Accused of Fatal Hit-and-Run, Claims Vehicle Now Submerged
Winter Haven, Florida – Authorities have arrested Victoria Johnson, a 30-year-old woman, in connection with a fatal hit-and-run incident that claimed the life of an 8-year-old boy and critically injured another child. The tragic event occurred Wednesday evening as the two boys were crossing the road near Faith Baptist Church following a church function. Johnson faces multiple charges, including leaving the scene of a crash with death and serious bodily injury, tampering with evidence, and driving without a license causing death.
The incident unfolded when the two young victims, ages 8 and 10, were struck by an SUV as they attempted to cross Crystal Beach Road. The 8-year-old succumbed to his injuries at the scene, while the 10-year-old sustained severe injuries including a broken arm, femur, and a compound skull fracture, and was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. The following day, Johnson contacted deputies to report her vehicle, a 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe, as stolen, claiming she had lent it to a friend. However, she later admitted to driving the vehicle that night and potentially hitting someone. When questioned about the vehicle's whereabouts, Johnson allegedly stated it was "probably at the bottom of a lake by now." Investigators later located the damaged SUV being driven by another individual, who was taken into custody for resisting arrest.
