Nebraska Man Faces Murder Charges Following Gruesome Death of Father
Omaha authorities have taken 36-year-old Martin Zak into custody following the discovery of his father’s dismembered remains at the family residence. The victim, John Zak, served as a deacon at St. Peter’s Catholic Church for over two decades. Concerns regarding the deacon’s whereabouts arose on March 11 when he failed to report to work, prompting his wife to contact law enforcement. Upon arrival at the home, officers discovered the victim’s body parts distributed both inside and outside the property, with investigators allegedly recovering the implements used in the crime from a dishwasher.
Martin Zak, who was reportedly living with his parents despite established boundaries regarding his access to the home, was apprehended following a vehicle pursuit the day after the discovery. At the time of his arrest, he was allegedly in possession of his father’s vehicle and wallet. Prosecutors have charged the younger Zak with first-degree murder, theft, and weapons offenses. Court records indicate a history of mental health struggles and prior criminal charges involving assault. Currently held without bond, the suspect is scheduled for a follow-up court appearance on April 17. The community continues to mourn the loss of the long-serving deacon as the legal proceedings move forward.
