Retired Air Force General Remains Missing Two Weeks After Vanishing from New Mexico Home
Retired U.S. Air Force General William "Neil" McCasland remains the subject of an active search after disappearing from his residence near Albuquerque on February 27. The general was last seen by a repairman at his home around 10:00 a.m. before his wife departed for a brief medical appointment. Upon her return less than an hour later, McCasland was gone. Authorities confirmed that he left behind his cellular phone, prescription glasses, and wearable technology, though a wallet and a .38 caliber revolver remain unaccounted for.
The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation with support from the FBI and state search and rescue teams. Despite extensive efforts, including aerial drone surveillance, K-9 unit deployments, and the canvassing of over 700 homes, no credible sightings or security footage have emerged to indicate his direction of travel. Officials noted that McCasland had recently been experiencing "mental fog," a condition characterized by memory and concentration issues. While some have speculated on potential links to broader health concerns, including symptoms associated with Havana Syndrome, investigators have found no evidence to support such theories. The Air Force Office of Special Investigations has provided limited assistance, but the case remains a missing person investigation with no clear leads on the retired officer’s whereabouts.
