DNC Rejects Resolutions Targeting AIPAC Influence and Military Aid to Israel
The Democratic National Committee (DNC) resolutions committee voted on Thursday to block measures aimed at curbing the influence of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) and restricting arms transfers to Israel. During a meeting in New Orleans, party officials rejected a symbolic resolution that sought to condemn AIPAC’s heavy financial involvement in Democratic primary elections. Simultaneously, the committee tabled two additional proposals that called for conditioning military aid to Israel, opting instead to refer the matter to a specialized task force established last August.
This decision highlights a deepening divide within the Democratic Party, as grassroots sentiment increasingly shifts toward skepticism regarding current U.S. policy toward Israel. Proponents of the rejected resolutions, including Florida DNC member Allison Minnerly, criticized the party leadership for failing to address the influence of outside spending and for avoiding difficult policy debates. While DNC official Ron Harris defended the task force as a serious effort to navigate complex issues, critics argue that the move effectively stalls progress on matters of significant concern to the party's base. AIPAC has faced intense scrutiny for its aggressive spending in recent primaries, drawing condemnation from various Democratic figures, yet the party leadership continues to resist formal measures that would challenge the organization's role or the current framework of military support.
