U.S. Army Unveils Specialized Night Stalker Configuration for New MV-75A Tiltrotor

The United States Army has provided the first public look at the special operations variant of the upcoming MV-75A Cheyenne II tiltrotor. During the 2026 Army Aviation Association of America’s Warfighting Summit, Colonel Roger Waleski, commander of the elite 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, presented a rendering detailing the modifications tailored for the Night Stalkers. While the baseline aircraft remains in development, this specialized design incorporates critical hardware necessary for high-stakes missions, including an in-flight refueling probe and a sophisticated nose-mounted sensor suite.

The visual representation highlights a distinct nose configuration designed to house the AN/APQ-187 Silent Knight radar, a standard terrain-following and avoidance system used across the special operations fleet. Additionally, the rendering suggests the integration of a Degraded Visual Environment Pilotage System, which utilizes LIDAR and camera technology to assist pilots during operations in challenging conditions like heavy fog, dust, or snow. These modifications align the MV-75A with the operational capabilities of the current MH-60M Black Hawk and MH-47G Chinook helicopters. The Army previously indicated intentions to integrate these high-speed tiltrotors into the 160th’s inventory to modernize their fleet, though the precise timeline for the transition and the final scale of the deployment remain subject to ongoing program updates.
