Army Shifts Cost Responsibility for ITEP Testing Amid GE's Funding Push
The U.S. Army is seeking greater industry involvement in funding the development of advanced technologies under its Integrated Thermal Energy Protection (ITEP) program. This initiative aims to modernize Black Hawk helicopters with improved engine performance and digital capabilities, but the government is now emphasizing shared financial responsibility with manufacturers. Maj. Gen. Clair Gill, Program Executive for Maneuver Air, highlighted that while the Army focuses on procurement and long-term sustainment, industry partners are expected to contribute more significantly during the development phase. This shift in cost-sharing reflects a broader effort to ensure affordability and sustainability of critical defense systems. GE, a key player in ITEP engine development, is actively engaging with manufacturers like Lockheed Martin to explore funding models that align with both military and industrial objectives. The Army's approach underscores its commitment to fostering innovation while balancing the financial burden between public and private sectors.
