Ohio Couple Charged with Murder After Allegedly Hiding Disabled Boy’s Body

A shocking case of alleged murder and corpse tampering has emerged in Dayton, Ohio, where a mother and her boyfriend face multiple charges tied to the death of a 7-year-old boy with disabilities. Hershall Creachbaum, who had nonverbal autism and used a wheelchair, was reported missing by his mother, Ashley Johnson, and her partner, Michael Kendrick, on July 12, 2025. However, police later discovered that Hershall’s remains were already in the house, leading to further charges being filed against both individuals.

According to authorities, Kendrick admitted to punching Hershall, causing severe injuries that led to his death. He allegedly claimed Hershall died while he was in the shower but later confessed to moving the boy’s body into a freezer after he stopped breathing. Police reported that the couple kept the child’s remains hidden “until he started to smell,” at which point they moved the body into a suitcase and disposed of it near train tracks.

Both Johnson and Kendrick are now facing multiple charges, including murder, involuntary manslaughter, abuse of a corpse, tampering with evidence, and endangering children. Johnson was initially charged with obstructing justice but has since been hit with additional allegations. Kendrick, who remains in custody without bond, is accused of being the primary figure in Hershall’s death and subsequent disposal.

The case has drawn significant attention due to its disturbing nature and the vulnerable status of the victim. Authorities have emphasized the need for accountability in such cases involving disabled individuals. Johnson and Kendrick are scheduled to appear in court on April 30, with Johnson currently held on a $25,000 bond.
