Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni Settle Lawsuit Days Before Trial Begins
NEW YORK — Actress Blake Lively and director Justin Baldoni have reached a settlement just days before their highly anticipated trial was set to begin. The legal battle between the two had been closely followed, particularly after details of private text messages between Lively and pop star Taylor Swift were made public earlier this month.
Lively had filed a lawsuit against Baldoni, along with several production companies and a crisis communications expert, alleging sexual harassment on the set of her film *It Ends With Us* and subsequent retaliation for reporting the alleged misconduct. Baldoni countersued but dropped his claims last year after they were dismissed by a judge. The case took a significant turn in April when most of Lively’s allegations were dismissed, leaving only three counts to proceed to trial. Despite this setback, Lively had signaled her intention to continue with the trial as recently as last week.
The settlement terms have not been disclosed, and the trial, originally scheduled for May 18, has now been avoided. In a joint statement released to Court TV, both parties emphasized their commitment to fostering respectful workplaces and acknowledged the challenges posed by the legal process. They also expressed hope that the resolution would bring closure and allow all parties to move forward constructively.
The case had drawn international attention not only for its allegations but also for the involvement of Swift’s private communications, which were shared as part of Lively’s evidence. The resolution marks a turning point in what was seen as a pivotal moment in Hollywood’s ongoing conversations about workplace culture and accountability.
