NFL Star Stefon Diggs Acquitted in Personal Chef Assault Case
Stefon Diggs, a former NFL wide receiver, was found not guilty by a Massachusetts jury after being accused of attacking his personal chef. The trial concluded with the jury deliberating for less than 90 minutes before delivering their verdict. Diggs faced charges including felony strangulation or suffocation and misdemeanor assault and battery following an incident reported by Jamila Adams in December 2025.
Adams alleged that a dispute over money turned physical inside Diggs' home, claiming he smacked her and put her in a chokehold. During the trial, she struggled to provide consistent testimony about the incident and admitted to giving Diggs a birthday gift just hours after the alleged attack. She also acknowledged not seeking medical attention afterward.
Diggs denied all charges, accusing Adams of fabricating the story for financial gain. His defense presented multiple witnesses who worked for him and reported seeing no signs of an altercation. Additionally, they highlighted evidence suggesting Adams had demanded significant sums of money from Diggs, including $19,000 and later $5.5 million. During cross-examination, Adams claimed Diggs offered her $100,000 to recant her story, a statement the judge instructed the jury to disregard.
In a post-verdict statement, Diggs' attorney, Mitch Schuster, emphasized that the case highlighted how professional athletes often face unwarranted accusations due to their public status and financial prominence. He stated that the evidence proved Diggs was wrongly accused.
Diggs, who last played for the New England Patriots after signing a $69 million contract, remains a free agent following his release. The acquitted verdict may help restore his reputation as he continues his NFL career, which includes six consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons with the Minnesota Vikings and Buffalo Bills from 2018 to 2023.
