Convicted Murderer Denies Role in Fatal 2018 Arson Following Final Appeal Rejection

Frank Bredt Jr., currently serving a sentence of 25 years to life for the 2018 murder of his girlfriend, Elisabeth Bell, continues to maintain his innocence despite the recent denial of his final appeal by the New York State Supreme Court. Prosecutors successfully argued at trial that Bredt intentionally doused the sleeping victim with an accelerant before igniting a fire that consumed the residence. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of January 11, resulted in the death of Bell and left her seven-year-old daughter with burn injuries. Bredt himself sustained severe burns over 80 percent of his body during the event and was apprehended while hiding in a nearby home.

In a recent interview, Bredt dismissed the prosecution’s narrative, instead suggesting that the victim was responsible for the blaze. This claim stands in stark contrast to evidence presented during his trial, including text messages sent shortly before the fire in which Bell pleaded with him not to come to her home or cause harm. While Bredt acknowledges the toxic nature of their relationship, he insists he had no involvement in starting the fire. Having exhausted his legal avenues for appeal, the convicted killer remains incarcerated at a correctional facility in Stormville, New York, where he will not be eligible for parole until 2043.
