Justice Served: OnlyFans Creator Convicted in Fatal Fetish Session Death
In a landmark case involving the adult entertainment industry, Michaela Rylaarsdam, a 32-year-old OnlyFans creator, has pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter for the death of her client, Michael Dale, during a high-risk sexual encounter. The incident occurred on April 17, 2023, in Escondido, California, where Dale paid Rylaarsdam for a fetish role-play session that included being bound in plastic wrap, having his eyes glued shut, and wearing women’s boots. During the encounter, a plastic bag was placed over Dale’s head, leading to oxygen deprivation. Rylaarsdam attempted CPR and called 911 after noticing he was unresponsive, but Dale died later at the hospital.
Prosecutors argued that Dale’s death resulted from prolonged suffocation due to the plastic bag being left on his head for at least eight minutes. Surveillance video obtained during the investigation showed Dale in distress, with duct tape over his mouth and hands bound behind his back. Despite Rylaarsdam’s defense that Dale had consented to the risks involved, the court found her actions negligent. She was charged with second-degree murder initially but ultimately pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter, avoiding a potential life sentence.
The case has sparked broader discussions about safety standards within the adult entertainment industry and the legal implications of high-risk sexual activities. Investigators reviewed thousands of text messages between Rylaarsdam and Dale, revealing that he paid her over $11,000 for the session and had explicitly requested extreme bondage elements. However, there was no mention of the plastic bag in their prior communications. Rylaarsdam’s attorney argued that she acted appropriately upon realizing the danger but faced criminal liability due to her failure to ensure Dale’s safety during the encounter.
Rylaarsdam was arrested in February 2024 and sentenced to four years in state prison following her guilty plea on May 6, 2023. The case highlights the fine line between consensual adult entertainment and criminal liability when things go wrong, raising questions about accountability and responsibility in the adult industry.
