California Financial Analyst Stabbed Colleague Over 40 Times, Jury Rules Him Sane

A California jury has determined that Ramy Fahim, a financial analyst from Orange County, was legally sane when he stabbed his colleague Griffin Cuomo more than 40 times with a "hunting dagger" in April 2022. The attack occurred at Cuomo's Anaheim apartment, where Fahim also killed another man, Jonathan Bahm, who was a roommate of the victims.

Fahim, 30, admitted to the killings shortly before his trial was set to begin. Prosecutors argued that Fahim targeted Cuomo after growing frustrated with what he perceived as micromanagement and unwanted assignments at their workplace, Pence Wealth Management in Newport Beach. The jury's role was solely to assess Fahim's legal sanity at the time of the murders, a claim he had initially raised as part of an insanity defense.

The attack unfolded on April 18, 2022, when Fahim ambushed Cuomo as he prepared to leave for work. According to police and court documents, Fahim stabbed both victims multiple times—over 40 strikes each—and planned to sever their heads before hiding the remains. However, his scheme was foiled when Bahm called emergency services, leading police to the apartment where they found the bodies.

During the trial, prosecutors highlighted evidence of Fahim's premeditation, including a tarp and shovel found in his car, as well as notes suggesting he had anticipated being caught and would feign schizophrenia to avoid accountability. Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer emphasized that the violence was not the product of insanity but rather a calculated act.

Fahim pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree murder with special circumstances, including lying in wait and multiple murders. He faces two consecutive life sentences without parole, as determined by the jury's findings.
