Congress Accepts Over $1.7M from ICE Contractors Amid Immigration Enforcement

The Trump administration has allocated billions of taxpayer dollars to corporations tasked with implementing its mass deportation policies. These same companies have contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars to members of Congress, according to an investigation by *The Appeal*. Between the 2022, 2024, and 2026 election cycles, executives at ICE’s largest contractors donated more than $1.7 million to 168 lawmakers.

Palantir CEO Alexander Karp was the top donor, contributing approximately $465,000, with significant portions going to Democrats. Other notable contributors included Palantir executives Mehdi Alhassani, Shyam Sankar, and Akash Jain, as well as GEO Group CEO George Zoley. The investigation revealed that private prison PACs donated around $675,000 to Congress members, with executives contributing nearly $380,000.

The findings raise concerns about the revolving door between politics and private interests. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire received a $5,000 donation from Management & Training Corporation’s PAC in 2026. Despite this, her office did not confirm whether she would refuse future donations from the private prison industry.

Approximately 60,000 people are detained by ICE annually, with many held in for-profit facilities. Reports of atrocious conditions, inedible food, and lack of medical care have emerged. Of the 48 deaths in ICE custody between January 2025 and April 2026, about 62% occurred in for-profit detention centers, according to data collected by lawyer and journalist Andrew Free.

The investigation underscores a troubling interplay between immigration enforcement policies and corporate interests, highlighting the need for transparency and accountability in campaign financing.
