Trump's Economic Approval Plummets Amid Inflation and Iran Conflict

President Trump's approval rating has reached a new low in his second term, with a recent poll showing only 37% of voters approve of his job performance. This sharp decline reflects growing discontent among key voter groups, particularly independents, who have become increasingly critical of his economic policies and handling of the ongoing conflict with Iran.

The drop in Trump's ratings is driven by widespread frustration over inflation and the economic fallout from the Iran war. A majority of voters now disapprove of his management of the economy and cost-of-living issues, with 64% saying his policies are making the economy worse in the short term. Even among Republicans, support has eroded: 37% now disapprove of Trump's handling of inflation, up 11 points since March.

Independents, a crucial voting bloc for the GOP in the upcoming midterms, are leading the charge against Trump. Sixty-nine percent of independents disapprove of his performance, up from 62% in January. This shift could have significant implications for Republican chances in November's House elections, as capturing independent voters will be essential to maintaining control.

The Iran war has also taken a toll on Trump's approval ratings. Nearly two-thirds of voters disapprove of his handling of the conflict, and fewer than a quarter believe it was worth its $29 billion cost. Many Americans feel the benefits of the war have been outweighed by higher gas prices and economic instability, with 64% calling the decision to go to war wrong.

Despite these challenges, White House spokesperson Olivia Wales reaffirmed Trump's commitment to his economic agenda, citing tax cuts, deregulation, and energy abundance as key priorities. "The President does not make national security decisions based on opinion polls but on what is best for the American people," she said in a statement to Axios.

As midterm elections approach, Trump's declining approval ratings and economic missteps could further undermine Republican efforts to retain control of Congress. The political landscape remains uncertain, with both parties facing challenges in winning over critical voter groups.
