DCCC Intervenes in Texas Primary With Targeted Ad Campaign Against Maureen Galindo
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is launching a $35,000 television advertising blitz to oppose Texas congressional candidate Maureen Galindo ahead of the upcoming May 26 runoff election. The move comes as party leadership distances itself from the sex therapist, who secured the top spot in the March primary for the 35th district. The campaign intervention follows widespread backlash regarding Galindo’s recent public statements, specifically her controversial proposal to transform a local immigration detention center into a facility for what she termed "American Zionists."
The new advertisements frame Galindo as a liability, labeling her "MAGA Maureen" and accusing her of spreading dangerous conspiracies. By highlighting alleged Republican financial support for her campaign, the DCCC aims to consolidate voter backing for her opponent, local sheriff’s deputy Johnny Garcia. Party officials emphasize that Garcia represents a more traditional Democratic platform capable of opposing former President Donald Trump. This eleventh-hour expenditure signals a concerted effort by the national party to prevent a candidate they view as toxic from securing the nomination in a critical district. The outcome of the runoff will determine whether the DCCC successfully steers the party away from a candidate who has faced intense scrutiny for her inflammatory rhetoric.
