Semi-Truck Driver Faces Criminal Charges and Civil Suits After Fatal Ohio Pileup
A commercial truck driver is facing multiple felony charges and civil lawsuits following a devastating chain-reaction collision on Interstate 71 in Ohio. Modou Ngom is accused of failing to stop for traffic in a construction zone near the Tanger Outlets Columbus mall on April 11. The resulting crash involved nine vehicles and claimed the lives of Luke Soposki, Lynnea Soposki, and their one-year-old son, Logan.
The tragedy has led to two separate civil lawsuits. An administrator for the Soposki estate alleges that Ngom acted with a conscious disregard for safety, causing profound emotional trauma and grief. Additionally, Alyssa Harris and her husband have filed suit, citing the terror and suffering they experienced during the incident. Several other individuals were hospitalized with serious injuries.
Criminal proceedings are also underway, with Ngom indicted on three counts of aggravated vehicular homicide and four counts of vehicular assault. Evidence from traffic cameras reportedly shows the semi-truck slamming into vehicles in the right lane, pushing cars into the median and causing at least one vehicle to burst into flames.
Further complicating the case, authorities discovered discrepancies regarding the driver's identity. Investigations by the Ohio Department of Public Safety suggest Ngom used a fake name to obtain a driver's license in 2003 and a commercial license later on. Ngom remains in the Delaware County jail with bond set at 500,000 dollars.
