New Jersey Man Pleads Guilty to Murder of Pregnant Partner
Boris Lainez-Rosales, a 28-year-old resident of Pleasantville, New Jersey, has pleaded guilty to first-degree murder for the killing of his domestic partner, Leslianette Quintana-Betancourt. The 25-year-old victim was pregnant at the time of the attack on December 2, 2024. Prosecutors state that Lainez-Rosales beat the victim to death with a baseball bat inside their shared home.
Following the assault, the defendant attempted to stage the crime scene to mislead investigators. He dragged the victim's body to the bottom of a twelve-step staircase and contacted emergency services using a witness's phone, claiming she had simply fallen. First responders discovered the victim with severe blunt-force trauma to her abdomen, arms, and face. The attack resulted in a ruptured placenta, and the unborn child did not survive.
Evidence gathered by police contradicted the defendant's claims. While the stairwell was clean, investigators found extensive bloodstains on the walls and floors of the basement living area. The victim's body and the apartment smelled strongly of bleach, suggesting an attempt to destroy biological evidence. Police later recovered a blood-stained baseball bat from the backyard and a trash bag containing hair from the defendant's vehicle.
Lainez-Rosales was indicted in February 2025 and has now admitted to the crime. The prosecutor's office is recommending a sentence of 30 years without the possibility of parole. A formal sentencing hearing is scheduled for July 31.
