Florida Woman Arrested After Using Wasp Spray in Road Rage Dispute
Tammy Jones, 61, faces a misdemeanor battery charge following a volatile confrontation with another driver in Lake Helen, Florida. On May 21, the two women became embroiled in a dispute at a local intersection that culminated in Jones spraying the other motorist with a can of wasp-killer. The incident ended at the Lake Helen Police Department, where Jones was taken into custody by the Volusia County Sheriff's Office.
The two parties provided conflicting accounts of the escalation. Jones told investigators that the other driver, who was operating a Kia, began yelling at her for brake-checking and threw an unknown yellow object at her vehicle. Jones further alleged that the woman threatened her by stating she was lucky a firearm was not present. Claiming she acted out of fear due to these threats, Jones admitted to using the insect spray before fleeing the scene.
Conversely, the victim informed police that Jones initiated the aggression by yelling and then spraying her directly in the eye. The victim followed Jones to the police station to report the assault. Law enforcement officials stated that a physical inspection of both vehicles provided evidence that corroborated the victim's account of the attack.
Following the investigation, deputies booked Jones into the Volusia County Jail. She was released the same day after posting a 500 dollar bond. The case highlights the dangers of road rage and the legal consequences of using chemical irritants during traffic disputes.
