DISA Deploys New Technology for Enhanced Military Cooperation in Indo-Pacific

The Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) is set to deploy advanced capabilities within the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command's network infrastructure, aiming to facilitate secure and efficient information sharing among international partners and allies. This initiative, known as the Coalition Information Environment (CIE), follows months of rigorous testing aimed at overcoming past challenges with incompatible network systems that have hindered collaboration between allied nations.

Lt. Col. David Courter, DISA’s chief of combatant command plan integration, highlighted during a panel discussion at AFCEA's TechNet Cyber conference that the CIE will serve as a foundational framework for the Mission Partner Environment (MPE). The MPE is designed to provide a unified digital workspace where U.S. forces and their international counterparts can seamlessly share intelligence and coordinate operations. This move comes in response to the need for more streamlined communication channels among allies, which have been previously constrained by diverse and incompatible network infrastructures.

Nick Cresswell, portfolio acquisition executive for MPE, emphasized that DISA is adopting a flexible approach to deploying CIE capabilities through iterative software acquisitions. This method enables continuous updates and improvements based on real-world operational feedback from warfighters. The agency plans to achieve a minimum viable capability release by January 2027, with ongoing development facilitated by the establishment of a Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipeline.

To ensure the security and robustness of these new capabilities, DISA is also setting up a Global Network Operations and Security Center (GNOSC), which will oversee the management, protection, and defense of the CIE network. This strategic move underscores the agency's commitment to creating an environment that not only enhances operational efficiency but also maintains high standards of cybersecurity across international military collaborations.
