Man Stabs Estranged Wife to Death Before Attempting Suicide in Connecticut Home
A man in Winsted, Connecticut, has been arrested and charged with murder after he allegedly stabbed his estranged wife to death. Leon Stetson, 67, is also facing charges of violating a protective order and home invasion. The victim, identified as Carrie Stetson, was found dead at the scene on Monday evening.
The grisly discovery began when a witness noticed blood in the bathroom of the couple's home and alerted authorities. Upon entering the residence, police found Carrie Stetson with a knife near her head and determined she had no pulse or signs of breathing. Leon Stetson was nearby, showing signs of severe injury to his neck and drifting in and out of consciousness.
According to court documents, Leon Stetson allegedly confessed to the crime while receiving medical treatment at a local hospital. The defendant reportedly wrote on a piece of paper, "You know how I did it," and described the events as getting "ugly." Police believe that after killing his wife, he attempted suicide by cutting himself.
The couple's relationship had been troubled, with Leon Stetson's addiction to crack cocaine causing significant issues. Carrie Stetson had an active protective order against her estranged husband due to concerns about his violent tendencies. The autopsy confirmed that the victim died from sharp force injuries inflicted during a homicide.
