Federal Judge Dismisses Sexual Misconduct Lawsuit Against Sean Combs

A federal judge in New York has dismissed a civil lawsuit filed by singer Dawn Richard against music mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs. The suit alleged that Combs engaged in emotional and physical abuse, manipulation, and copyright infringement against Richard during their professional relationship from 2004 to 2012. However, Judge Kathrine Polk Failla ruled that the claims were filed too late under New York's statute of limitations laws.

Richard accused Combs of using demeaning language towards her and other women, depriving them of food and sleep, and inflicting violence both on herself and others she witnessed. Despite these serious allegations, the judge found that because the alleged misconduct ceased in 2011 or 2012, Richard's lawsuit was no longer timely under New York law.

The dismissal highlights the legal challenges faced by individuals attempting to bring forward claims of past abuse against powerful figures like Combs, who is currently serving time for flying women and sex workers across states for drug-fueled sexual encounters. His release date from Fort Dix federal prison is set for February 23, 2028.

Richard's attorneys attempted to argue that her fear of Combs persisted long after the alleged abuse ended, but Failla did not find this argument sufficient to extend the statute of limitations. Additionally, Richard’s claim regarding copyright infringement was dismissed because she and Combs were co-authors of the disputed song "Deliver Me," making it legally impossible for them to sue each other over its use.
