Connecticut Woman Charged with Murder for Leaving Newborn in Dumpster Eight Years Ago

Dominique Harrison, a 28-year-old woman from Danbury, Connecticut, has been charged with murder following an investigation into the death of her newborn son, who was found abandoned in a dumpster in 2018. Harrison was arrested on June 18 and formally charged with murder with special circumstances on June 22. Prosecutors allege that shortly after giving birth to her infant son in 2018, Harrison placed him in a remote dumpster, an act that led to the baby's death.

The case has garnered significant attention due to its shocking nature and the delay between the incident and Harrison’s arrest. According to court documents, evidence gathered over the years eventually linked Harrison to the crime after multiple interviews with her by law enforcement. During these interrogations, she allegedly admitted to placing her son in a secluded area where no one could find or rescue him.

At Harrison's arraignment, Deputy Assistant State’s Attorney Mary Caitlin Harding described the case as depicting "a level of depravity that is nearly inconceivable." The court has sealed the arrest warrant affidavit, leaving many details about the evidence and timeline unclear. Harrison remains in custody on $2.5 million bail and is scheduled to appear in court again on July 31.

The delay in bringing charges against Harrison highlights the challenges faced by law enforcement in solving cold cases involving infant deaths. This case joins a series of similar investigations that have come to light over recent years, each revealing the tragic consequences of abandoning newborns to die.
