Iran's Vital Naval Base at Strait of Hormuz Engulfed in Flames Following Strikes

Satellite imagery reveals extensive damage to Iran's Bandar Abbas naval base, a critical installation for controlling the Strait of Hormuz, following recent strikes. The images, obtained from Planet Labs, show the IRINS Makran sea base-type ship ablaze, with thick black smoke billowing over large sections of the facility. This incident occurs amidst an ongoing U.S.-Israeli campaign, with U.S. President Donald Trump stating that "annihilating" Iran's naval forces is a key objective of Operation Epic Fury, claiming ten Iranian ships have been incapacitated thus far.

Bandar Abbas serves as the main headquarters for the Iranian Navy and houses many of its most capable vessels and submarines. The satellite photos, taken overnight, show a smaller plume of smoke emanating from an impact point on a pier, alongside the widespread smoke over the central portion of the base. While some areas appear less affected, the damage to the IRINS Makran, an oil tanker converted into a "forward base ship," is clearly visible at the southern end of the base.

Further analysis of the imagery suggests that at least one, possibly two, frigate-sized warships have also been struck, representing high-value targets within the port. However, a Kilo-class submarine and several midget submarines present at the base appear to be untouched. The full extent of damage to other Iranian naval vessels previously berthed at Bandar Abbas remains under assessment.
