US Unleashes Advanced Precision Strike Missiles in Iran Conflict
The U.S. military has deployed Lockheed Martin's long-range Precision Strike Missile (PrSM) for the first time in combat against Iranian targets, as confirmed by U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM). This marks a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict, with video footage released Wednesday showing the next-generation munitions being launched from M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) in desert terrain. The deployment is part of Operation Epic Fury, an extensive campaign against Iran that has utilized a variety of precision munitions from land, sea, and air.
The PrSM, enhanced with GPS capabilities, can accurately strike targets approximately 250 miles away, delivering a powerful fragmentation effect upon impact. Admiral Brad Cooper, CENTCOM commander, praised the innovation, stating his pride in the service members leveraging new technologies to create dilemmas for the adversary. This advanced missile joins other sophisticated weapon systems, including Patriot Interceptor Missile Systems, THAAD Anti-Ballistic Missile Systems, and LUCAS one-way attack drones, which have also seen their first combat use in this conflict.
While specific details regarding the targets engaged by the PrSMs remain undisclosed, Operation Epic Fury has reportedly destroyed over 2,000 military targets across Iran. This includes the notable sinking of an Iranian naval frigate, marking the first torpedo kill by a U.S. Navy submarine since World War II. The U.S. Army and Lockheed Martin have been actively working to increase PrSM production capacity, following successful tests of its short-range and long-range capabilities last year.
