Florida Woman Receives Life Sentence for Fatal Beating of Elderly Great-Grandfather
A Florida woman has been sentenced to life in prison for the 2020 murder and robbery of her husband's 88-year-old great-grandfather. Britney Andrus, 29, was found guilty in July of second-degree murder, burglary, and grand theft of a motor vehicle in connection with the death of James Little in his Sebring home. The victim's grandson, Joshua Little, spoke at the sentencing, emphasizing the profound loss and the brutal nature of his grandfather's final moments. Andrus and her boyfriend, Tyler Best, reportedly planned to steal from Little and flee to Michigan.
Best, 25, previously pleaded guilty to the same charges and received a 15-year sentence after testifying against Andrus during her trial. The couple had been living in a mother-in-law suite attached to Little's home when the crime occurred. Investigators determined that Little was beaten 12 times with an unknown object, suffering blunt force trauma to the head, and left to die while his car, jewelry, cash, and a hidden safe were stolen. Surveillance footage and witness testimonies, including Andrus's own statement, "It was like he was asking for it anyways," helped solidify the case against them.
Prosecutors highlighted the brutal nature of the crime, dismissing defense claims of Andrus's childhood mental health issues as irrelevant to the act of murdering an elderly man while under the influence of drugs. The crime scene indicated a violent struggle, with blood evidence throughout Little's bedroom, which was found in disarray. Little died five days after being discovered unconscious, succumbing to his injuries.
