Texas Man Receives Multiple Life Sentences for Dating App Murders and Other Violent Crimes
A Texas man, Jer Auntey Pleasant, 25, has been sentenced to four concurrent 50-year prison terms for a series of violent crimes, including the murders of two men lured through a dating app. The Bexar County Criminal District Attorney's Office announced the sentencing, which also covers charges of aggravated robbery and aggravated sexual assault of a child. Pleasant's criminal spree began in March 2022, escalating to multiple homicides in April 2023, leaving a trail of victims and raising concerns about online dating safety.
Pleasant utilized the LGBTQ+ social networking app Grindr to target his victims. In March 2022, he shot a man during a robbery attempt after meeting him through the app. Authorities also identified him through DNA evidence as the perpetrator of a sexual assault on a 13-year-old child in July 2022. His pattern of violence culminated in April 2023, when he fatally shot 54-year-old Larry Wilson and 22-year-old Joseph West on consecutive days, after arranging to meet them via Grindr under the alias "Derek."
Key evidence, including Pleasant's fingerprints found on condom wrappers at both murder scenes and ballistics confirming the use of the same firearm, allowed investigators to quickly link the two homicides. Joseph West was discovered with a fatal gunshot wound to the head in his apartment, while Larry Wilson was killed at the Banyan Tree Apartments in San Antonio. The swift resolution of these cases underscores the critical role of forensic evidence in bringing perpetrators of violent crimes to justice.
