NYPD Officer and National Guard Major Dies in Kuwait
Major Sorffly Davius, a 46-year-old Army National Guard officer from Queens, New York, and a New York City Police Department officer, passed away on March 6 at Camp Buehring, Kuwait. The Pentagon confirmed his death on Sunday, stating it resulted from a non-combat incident. Davius was assigned to Headquarters Battalion, 42nd Infantry Division, out of Troy, New York, and was deployed in support of Operation Spartan Shield, a U.S. Central Command mission focused on regional deterrence.
The NYPD, in a separate statement released the day before the Pentagon's announcement, indicated that Davius died following a "medical episode while deployed to Kuwait." The incident remains under investigation by military authorities. Major Davius began his service with the NYPD in 2014, where he was assigned to the 79th Precinct, and the department expressed condolences, honoring his sacrifice.
This incident occurs amidst heightened tensions in the region, though Davius's death is unrelated to recent combat casualties. U.S. Central Command also announced the death of an unidentified service member who succumbed to injuries sustained in a March 1 Iranian attack in Saudi Arabia, marking the seventh combat fatality in ongoing operations against the Islamic Republic. Six other soldiers killed in a separate Iranian drone attack on March 1 in Port Shuabia, Kuwait, were repatriated to the U.S. on Saturday.
