US Casualties Mount to Seven in Ongoing Middle East Conflict
A U.S. service member has died from injuries sustained during an attack in Saudi Arabia on March 1, bringing the total number of American fatalities in Operation Epic Fury to seven. U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the death on Sunday, stating the individual succumbed to wounds received during initial Iranian retaliatory strikes across the Middle East. The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, in accordance with Defense Department policy.
This latest casualty follows the deaths of six other service members killed on March 1 when an Iranian drone struck a temporary operations center in Kuwait. Those six fallen soldiers were identified as Sgt. Declan Coady, Capt. Cody Khork, Sgt. 1st Class Nicole Amor, Sgt. 1st Class Noah Tietjens, Maj. Jeffrey O’Brien, and Chief Warrant Officer 3 Robert Marzan. Their remains were repatriated to the U.S. at Dover Air Force Base on Saturday, with President Donald Trump in attendance.
Operation Epic Fury commenced on February 28 with U.S. and Israeli military strikes against Iran, which reportedly killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and other top Iranian officials. In response, Iran has launched retaliatory attacks on U.S. military installations and civilian infrastructure throughout the region. CENTCOM also reported that 18 U.S. troops have been wounded in the ongoing conflict, while NBC News, citing Iranian state media, indicates 940 people have been killed in Iran by U.S. and Israeli forces.
