Colorado Authorities Charge 11-Year-Old with First-Degree Murder in Younger Brother's Death

Centennial, Colorado authorities are investigating the death of a 5-year-old boy, with his 11-year-old brother now facing a first-degree murder charge. Police responded to a residence on March 10 after receiving a report of the younger child's deceased status. The elder sibling was identified as the suspect the following day, and the case is being treated as a homicide. Neither child has been publicly identified by officials.

The 11-year-old suspect is currently in custody at the Marvin W. Foote Youth Services Center, according to the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office. Colorado law permits children as young as 10 to face criminal charges, and a first-degree murder charge suggests premeditation. While juvenile court records are typically sealed, exceptions can be made if a child is charged as an adult, though this case is proceeding in juvenile court. The Arapahoe County Sheriff expressed the profound difficulty of cases involving the homicide of children.
