Teenager Faces Murder Charges for Stabbing Classmate at Track Meet
Teenager Karmelo Anthony, 19, is currently on trial in McKinney, Texas, accused of murdering Austin Metcalf, a 17-year-old student. The incident occurred during a track meet in Frisco, Texas, on April 2, 2025. Prosecutors allege that Anthony provoked and taunted Metcalf before stabbing him fatally at the event.
According to prosecutor Bill Wirskye's opening statement, several individuals present at the scene had asked Anthony to leave the area where Metcalf’s school was situated. When Metcalf stepped forward to ask Anthony to depart, the defendant allegedly responded with verbal provocations. As tensions escalated, Metcalf reportedly attempted to physically remove Anthony from the premises, leading to the fatal stabbing.
Anthony's defense team, led by attorney Mike Howard, argues that their client acted in self-defense after being confronted aggressively and without provocation. Howard emphasized that Anthony is a high-achieving student with a 3.7 GPA who was simply seeking shelter during an unexpected rainstorm when he entered another school’s tent area.
The trial has attracted significant public interest, with over 200 people lining up outside the Collin County Courthouse to witness proceedings. Surveillance footage captured the entire incident, which lasted approximately 15 minutes from start to finish, and is expected to play a crucial role in determining the outcome of the case.
